Los Angeles: The Grove & Farmers Market

Ah, Christmas-- the most wonderful time of the year! How could you not agree when you can't help but marvel at how extra every place looks at this time? Speaking of "Extra," if you're familiar with the showbiz entertainment TV show of the same name, let me take you to one of their shooting locations in Downtown LA!

The Grove is DTLA's premier shopping destination. The open-air setup makes for lovely strolls as you (window-)shop. The architecture also is an interesting mix of styles that nevertheless exudes a certain kind of elegance. Actually, one of the things I love about Los Angeles is its affinity for Art Deco, and the Pacific Theatres at The Grove is an example of it. Seeing the place glammed up for Christmas was something else, however. For the holidays, every tree was garbed in strings of light, which twinkle even at noon. Suffice to say, the decorations were remarkable whether at morning or at night.

Just across is The Original Farmers Market, iconic for its wide array of establishments. Food choices range from philly cheesesteak, clam chowder, sushi, gyros, beignets, and a whole lot more. Besides restaurants, there are also stores selling souvenir shirts, magnets, vintage items, and other collectibles. Of course they did not sleep on the holidays, too. Even the old-fashioned clock tower looked lively in Christmas garland.

Cookie shots, anyone?
Poke for dinner
